Hot Shot Driver

Class A or B – At Lone Star, we strive to provide our students with basic knowledge and skills in preparation for successfully completing the Hotshot Driver (CDL) exam. Students that successfully complete this program will have the ability to safely operate a Hotshot commercial vehicle and a gooseneck trailer. as an entry level driver.  This course satisfies the mandatory ELDT requirement for students who want to obtain their CDL Class A or B. 

This training program provides up to 64 total clock hours of instruction consistent with the USDOT and FMCSA’s Entry-Level Driver Training (“ELDT”) Minimum Curricula Requirements and this course has two primary sections, as follows:

  1. Theory – The student spends the first 40 clock hours of the course learning the fundamentals of commercial vehicle operations, including basic and advanced operation, safe operating practices, vehicle system and malfunctions, and non-driving activities. Students will also learn to safely transport hazardous materials and multiple trailers to obtain the appropriate endorsements for licensure.
  1. Practical Application – The student will spend 24 clock hours on the practice range and on the road learning about pre-and post-trip inspections, maneuvering, and safe driving practices.

While standard clock hours for this program are provided herein, this program is competency-based.  Students will complete each instructional area at a pace consistent with their competency at the discretion of their instructional team.

*If students test in a F-350 dually and trailer, the student will have an Airbrakes and Automatic Restriction on their license.

*Must provide your own Vehicle and Trailer to complete training.
